Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Cyber Security Nordic event in Helsinki, Finland. Held at the same venue where Slush will take place in a few weeks, this annual conference is a key gathering for IT and ICT executives, cybersecurity experts, and decision-makers from both the private and public sectors.

The event featured a series of insightful presentations by leading specialists, covering a wide range of topics such as advanced ransomware, supply chain attacks, cloud security threats, and IoT vulnerabilities. Here are some highlights from the presentations I attended:

1. Cyber Threat Landscape and AI in Defence<\/strong> – Marcus Murray, Founder of Truesec Group
Marcus shared insights from his extensive experience in cyber threat detection and incident response, discussing how AI can enhance our defences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Effective Strategies Against Persistent DDoS Threats<\/strong> – Omer Yoachimik, Senior Product Manager, DDoS, Cloudflare
Omer presented interesting statistics on DDoS attacks and effective mitigation strategies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. AI and Cybersecurity: Risks and Opportunities<\/strong> – Stijn Rommens, Vectra AI
Stijn discussed how AI helps in identifying cybersecurity threats, even when adversaries use AI, and shared the latest developments in AI-driven cybersecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Threat Intelligence Feeds: Maximising Value<\/strong> – Toni Koivunen, CTO, Fitsec Ltd
Toni explained how organisations can better utilise their existing security appliances by integrating external threat intelligence feeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Finland’s Cyber Resilience: Securing the Digital Age<\/strong> – Jukka L\u00e5ng, Peter Sund, Tiina Ferm, Tuija Kuusisto
This panel discussed Finland’s strategies for safeguarding its digital future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. The State of Ransomware and Human-Led Threat Hunting<\/strong> – Jon Hope, Senior Technology Evangelist, Sophos
Jon highlighted key findings from the Sophos State of Ransomware Report and emphasized the importance of human-led threat hunting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. The Future of Cyber Security for Critical Infrastructure<\/strong> – Teemu Salmi, CEO, Nixu
Teemu addressed the cyber threat landscape for critical infrastructure industries and the importance of robust security measures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. Digital Detectives: Leveraging OSINT<\/strong> – Rich Williams, Senior Account Executive, Babel Street
Rich explored how open-source intelligence (OSINT) can bridge the gap between data and actionable intelligence, using a case study from the Ukraine conflict.

The event also featured a pitch contest for five selected cybersecurity startups. It was exciting to watch, especially since we won a similar contest in Malta last year. Congratulations to the winner, Siren Anti-cheat, a gaming security startup!

Additionally, I had the opportunity to network with several cybersecurity companies at their booths, which may lead to future collaborations.

Overall, Cyber Security Nordic 2024 was a fantastic event, and I look forward to attending again next year!
